Experience Innovation

BMW ConnectedDrive - A new degree of mobility and driving pleasure.

BMW ConnectedDrive puts the driver in the centre of an intelligent network of information, communication and driver-assistant systems, both from within the vehicle and external to it. It brings together the powerful functionalities of BMW Assist, BMW Online, BMW Tracking, BMW TeleService and driver assistant systems, forming a single network that offers greater comfort, safety and advanced infotainment. The driver is individually and ergonomically connected to all relevant information and services.

BMW Assist

Help when you need it most - supporting you in an emergency, guiding you in unfamiliar territory and enabling you to avoid traffic jams: BMW Assist provides reliable help in every situation, bringing you safely and quickly to your destination.

Since it was first launched in 1999, the ground-breaking telematic service BMW Assist has provided convenient information and helpful services for BMW drivers when they need it most. In connection with the BMW Navigation system plus the BMW preparation for Bluetooth mobile phone with integrated SIM card, BMW Assist brings you a range of useful features.

The emergency call feature, for example, automatically transmits your vehicle's status and position data directly to the BMW Service headquarters and makes a telephone connection. The system sends an automatic signal to BMW Service immediately if the crash sensors in the airbags are activated.

In the event of a breakdown, BMW Assist activates the BMW breakdown service, connecting to Mobile Service and transmitting the relevant vehicle data. Your BMW Service partner will be by your side as quickly as possible, helping you get back onto the road.

hould you be driving on the German Autobahn network, BMW Assist also provides reliable and up-to-the-minute traffic information, thanks to a system of more than 4,000 sensors positioned along the motorways that measure traffic congestion and transmit the results in real time.

A further feature of BMW Assist is the BMW information service, which provides up-to-date information directly in your vehicle: addresses and telephone numbers, recommendations for hotels, restaurants and places of interest. Opening times and entrance fees for museums plus current cinema and theatre programmes can also be called up quickly and conveniently on the on-board monitor with TV.

BMW Online

BMW Online makes you more mobile than ever before, keeping you up to date and in touch, thanks to internet-based mobility and information services that you can access directly from your cockpit. BMW Online is your helpful co-pilot, providing you with the information you need when you are on the road.

The secret behind the convenience and intuitive effectiveness of BMW Online is its ability to offer location-based services. Using GPS technology and the SIM card integrated in the car telephone, BMW Online recognises your vehicle's current location and can provide you with relevant information along your route.

Even before you start your journey, you know what sort of weather awaits you at your destination. Finding a nearby parking space becomes simple. News items and stock market updates are instantly available. Should you need a doctor, BMW Online provides you with the telephone numbers and addresses of open doctor's practices in the vicinity.

BMW Online also offers mobile office features: access your address book and your own e-mail account directly from the driver's seat. With the in-built Telematics Control Unit (TCU) with its own SIM card and a flat-rate account, the use of BMW Online services carry no additional costs.

BMW Tracking

Foil car thieves and recover your BMW with BMW Tracking: the integrated transmitter lets your BMW quickly be located in the event of a theft.

Part of the BMW ConnectedDrive suite of innovations, BMW Tracking gives you added peace of mind and minimises the potential damage caused by car theft. A hidden transmitter module is automatically activated in the event of theft. It regularly transmits the current location of the vehicle to the BMW Tracking Call Centre. So your connection to your BMW is never broken - not even by thieves.

There are two ways that the alarm can be activated: when you as the owner realise that your BMW has been stolen, you can simply call the specially-authorised BMW Tracking Call Centre number. Alternatively, the module automatically activates itself the moment your BMW's anti-theft system has been triggered. In order to prevent false alarms, the BMW Tracking Call Centre will first attempt to make contact with the owner to confirm the theft.

Once confirmed, or if the owner cannot be contacted, the BMW Tracking Call Centre alerts the police and provides precise GPS location data, so the vehicle can be swiftly recovered.

BMW TeleServices

BMW TeleServices are an innovation that utilises wireless communication between your BMW and your BMW Service Centre to transmit service-relevant information. Before your next service is due, key vehicle status data is automatically delivered to your BMW Service Centre. This ensures they can be thoroughly prepared when your vehicle arrives and avoids unnecessary servicing time and expense.

When a service is due, BMW TeleServices automatically sends all relevant data from the Condition Based Service system (CBS) to your BMW Service Centre. They will then call you to arrange a service and discuss any extra work that may be required. Thanks to the information received, service staff know which Original BMW Parts need to be ordered in advance and how much work the service will involve. This helps to ensure servicing time is kept to a minimum.

In addition, you can make a manual BMW TeleServices call should you wish to contact your BMW Service Centre yourself. By selecting the menu item "Send Service Data", you can send up-to-date information on your vehicle's condition with regard to statutory inspection requirements. Your BMW Service Centre will then call you to discuss the forthcoming service and to arrange a convenient time for an appointment.

Formula 1 News

Kent BMW Formula 1 News

All for 1. Victory For All

All for 1. All for the team. Everyone working towards one goal. Everyone working towards the first victory. The BMW Sauber F1 Team has achieved its goal: following a two-year development phase, in which the foundations were set for a successful future, the team from Munich and Hinwil can celebrate the first one-two victory in just its third season. The BMW Sauber F1 Team dedicates this victory to everyone who has made the success possible: drivers, team members, partners and, last but not least, the fans.

The essence of racing. All for 1.

Following his superb success in the Canadian Grand Prix - the race he had suffered his serious incident in last year - Robert Kubica was over the moon. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver thanked the entire Munich and Hinwil based squad and hopes to be able to defend his top position in the Drivers' Championship until the season is over.

"I'd like to thank my team for having provided me with a competitive car that allowed us to secure a one-two," Robert said following the maiden Grand Prix win in his career. "This has been a fantastic result for me, the team, my country and my supporters.

"With the experience of just 29 races under his belt, the Pole made it to the highest step of the podium for the very first time. Curiously, Robert experienced this special moment just in Montreal where he had survived a serious accident virtually unharmed last year. With this triumph, Robert definitely proved that this bad moment encountered in the 2007 Canadian GP has made no impact whatsoever on him.

"The only thing that counts is the win," says Robert. "We succeeded in winning here in Canada were I have suffered a massive crash last year. Furthermore, we had set ourselves the goal to clinch our maiden GP win this year. Now I've taken the lead in the championship and I hope that the team will support me 100 percent to offer me the chance of defending my lead up to and including the final round of the season."

In the Canadian GP at Montreal, the BMW Sauber F1 Team also delivered a tactical masterstroke, representing a vital contribution to the first one-two of the Munich and Hinwil based squad.

There are many ways to make it to the podium. This fact was demonstrated by the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the Canadian Grand Prix - in impressive style. The key for Nick's great race from eighth grid position that ended with the runner-up finish was a one-stop strategy. While the top-seven - including Robert Kubica - had to pit simultaneously during the safety-car period, the German had enough fuel in the tank of his BMW Sauber F1.08 to stay out for numerous laps as the new race leader.

Following the re-start, Nick clocked numerous fast laps, thus laying the foundation for securing the fifth runner-up finish in his Formula One career. When he came in on lap 29 for his only stop, he had to remain motionless for clearly more than ten seconds as refuelling the car to the maximum took quite a while. Nonetheless, he succeeded in rejoining the race right ahead of Robert.

Both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers were aware of their chances of giving the BMW Sauber F1 Team its historic first GP win, this Sunday in Canada. Therefore, Nick did without battling it out with Robert when the Pole went next to him to then pass him, on lap 31. From this point in time it was clear that the following laps would be decisive. Robert's task: he had to quickly open a gap on Nick to have the chance of staying ahead of his team-mate, following his second stop.

And Robert did so. He proved to be truly motivated and lap by lap, he increased the lead over Nick who was hampered by his clearly heavier car. The Pole was temporarily slowed down by Toyota's Timo Glock but when the German pitted on lap 42, Robert could accelerate to put in another series of fast laps. And indeed: the gap he opened on Nick until he had to pit for the second time, on lap 49, was big enough to rejoin the race 5.2 seconds ahead of his team-mate. From this point in time, the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing didn't take any unnecessary risks and with their focused performance, they secured the biggest success in the team's history to date.

"The final laps were the most difficult ones," revealed Robert. "Again and again, the team told me via the pit radio to keep my cool. They told me that I shouldn't take any risks to just bring the win home. And when I finally had made it, the feelings were just overwhelming."
